Chronic pain including back pain can have devastating effects on a patient’s quality of life. Unlike acute pain that is temporary and controllable, chronic pain can create problems with permanent nerve damage, work productivity, recreation and general enjoyment of one’s life. Chronic pain can be much more difficult to manage.
At Texas Star Pharmacy, we can combine an array of various active agents which utilize different mechanisms of action that can alter the sensation of pain. It has been shown that physicians can use smaller amounts of these agents in combinations that are absorbed through the skin at trigger points. Because they do not pass through the gastrointestinal tract, they are not decreased by the first pass metabolism (they actually work better that oral medication).
Because these medications are applied topically the side effects of oral medication,( gastrointestinal upset, diarrhea, etc. ), can be eliminated. With a physician’s prescription we can formulate innovative pain management therapies, often using a combination of medications in the optimal dosage form and strength necessary. This will ease chronic discomfort and reduce stomach upset by treating pain at its source and possibly decreasing the amount of oral medications necessary for pain management.
